  1. Paulette to me was my “Aunty P”. She was a kind and generous lady and one of my Mothers best friends, which is why I was gifted with her as being my “Godmother”. Growing up ‘Aunty P’ coming over would usually mean a dinner or celebration was on, a stunning Aunty P cheesecake would be at the dinner table and there would be possible a small gift for myself. I remember that she was always inquisitive as to how I was doing and always encouraging me and never really judging my life’s choices, just a quiet and gentle encouragement to to keep at it and that I was doing alright. Now time distance and life movements have meant that my interactions have not been often in my later years and I am saddened that I cannot be there in person. What I would like to say about what Paulette meant to me is that she is someone that set a quiet yet profound example of resilience. Throughout the times I interacted with her there were many challenges that she was facing. Some would have crumbled under the pressure of these situations. Even though I knew that she was doing it tough, in my presence she would generally present herself as a quiet beacon of perseverance and hope that always managed to make it through. I always admired her for that. Whilst we won’t be able to meet once again, that is a life’s lesson I will continue to carry with me and hope that others will also be able to see the beauty in that lesson. For me and I am sure others, Paulette was loved, she will be missed and may she have some peace. Farewell “Aunty P” may you live in peace,
